Alma A. Felix, former Desert View Elementary
Alma A. Felix, former Desert View Elementary and Southwest Junior High School student. Alma was a student at San Luis High School where she was a Leadership Enterprise for a Diverse America (LEDA) Scholar and she was on the basketball team for which she was the team captain of the JV Team for 1 year. She was a member of Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA), the National Honor Society, and a participant of the Johns Hopkins CTY Summer Program.
After graduating from SLHS in 2014, she was admitted to Albright College where she pursued a B.S. in Mathematics and a minor in Public Health. As an undergraduate student Alma was the recipient of the Provost Scholarship, the National Honor Scholarship, the CURA Award, the Muhlenberg Goodwill Prize, and the Community Representative Award! She also was the president of the National Organization for Women (NOW), treasurer of the Math Club, was on the President's Student Advisory Council (PSAC), and was a Peer Educator at Albright College under a U.S. Department of Justice Grant.
Aside from holding an internship with the Partnership for Public Health of Lancaster County, Ms. Felix conducted and presented her research as a sophomore student, "The Effects of Heteronormative Privilege on the Berks County LGBTQ+ Community" at the Higher Education Council of Berks County's Undergraduate Research and Creativity Conference. She also conducted independent research as a senior, "Cross-Cultural Communication Initiatives in Reducing Childhood Lead Poisoning in Lancaster, PA, United States". Alma graduated from Albright College in May 2019 and is currently applying for a Masters of Public Health in Epidemiology at Drexel University!
At the moment, Ms. Alma Felix is employed by the Lancaster County Community Foundation as a Program Officer. Some of her responsibilities entail managing grant programs and scholarships, creating grant applications, award letters and contracts, facilitate cohort meetings, plan and implement events, design, manage, and create website content, social media accounts, emails, and graphics.
Alma directed a short documentary "Now You Know" which focuses on the dangers of lead poisoning in children from Lancaster County that is now used as an educational resource by Partnership for Public Health (PPH).
