We want to start off the week by featuring another "Rising Star" on our website. Her name is Lizbeth Rojas, a former Desert View Elementary and Southwest Junior High School student. Upon graduating from San Luis High School, Ms. Rojas transferred to Arizona State University where she is currently working towards a B.S. in Supply Management, a B.A. in Business Law, a Minor in Spanish, a Certificate in International Business, and is expected to graduate this May!
As a student at San Luis High School, Lizbeth was involved in student council, the volleyball team, the soccer team, the National Honors Society, and graduated ranked #3 of her class. Ms. Rojas continued to excel at Arizona State University, where she's been on the ASU Dean's list, joined the multicultural sorority Kappa Delta Chi, studied abroad in Barcelona in the fall of 2019, and was a member of the executive board for the Hispanic Business Student Association for 2 semesters.
Lizbeth has worked as an intern at the Administration Department at San Luis City Hall in 2018 and as Summer Resident Assistant for the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth in San Rafael, California. She has also worked as a Supply Chain Intern for Frito-Lay in the summer of 2020, and as a New Product Planning Intern for ON Semiconductor where she is working at the moment. At this position for ON Semiconductor, Lizbeth has a responsibility to ensure that the adequate steps are taken before parts are released for production.

Katia L. Rojas Valadez is a former Desert View Elementary and Southwest Junior High School student who graduated as Class Valedictorian 2016 from San Luis High School. At SLHS, Miss Rojas Valadez was on the soccer team, volleyball team, softball team, swim team, on the National Honors Society, and on the A-Team. In her pursuit of a postsecondary education, Katia went on to Northern Arizona University where she graduated Magma Cum Laude in May 2020 with a B.S. in Exercise Education and a Minor in Nutrition.
As an undergraduate student at NAU, Katia was on the Dean's List CEFNS, was a recipient of the Lumberjack Scholarship, and was the President of Lumberjack Alumni Ambassadors. She was also a member of the Exercise Science Club, a member of Stressbusters, and a member of the College of Health Education Club. Katia served as a Special Events Officer for the Lumberjack Alumni Ambassadors, was a Journey for Underrepresented Medical Professionals Scholar, and an organic chemistry teacher assistant.
Miss Rojas Valadez was a NAU FATS Program Student and Research Initiative for Scientific Enhancement (RISE) Fellow. Katia co-authored an article "AlterG® Anti-Gravity Treadmill Accuracy of Unloading Is Affected by Support Frame Height" that was published in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research! She is currently pursuing a M.S. in Athletic Training at NAU where she is expected to graduate in May 2022.
Katia is currently working as an Athletic Training Student Volunteer at Flagstaff High School and will be working as an Athletic Training Student Volunteer at Arizona Western College in the near future.

Today we want to feature the first person in our community of San Luis to get accepted and graduate from a military academy! Her name is Nathania Nuño a former Desert View Elementary and Southwest Junior High School student. Nathania attended San Luis High School where she was highly recognized for her academic achievement and school involvement. She was part of the Varsity Basketball Team, the Volleyball Team, and was the team captain of Track and Field. In fact, she was a Top 15 Division II Conference 100m and 200m sprinter! Nathania also was a Student Council member, AVID President, a member of the A-Team, and the National Honor Society. A recipient of the AP Scholar Award, Nathania obtained Congressional nominations from late Senator John McCain and Congressman Raul Grijalva. Due to her exceptional academic dedication, Nathania was accepted to all five military academies - U.S. Coast Guard Academy, U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, and her ultimate choice, U.S. Military Academy at West Point!
At USMA at West Point, Nathania pursued a B.S. in Sociology and a B.S. in Systems Engineering from where she is expected to graduate this upcoming May. A an undergraduate student, Ms. Nuño has been on the Dean's List, has been the recipient of the Distinguished Cadet Award, the Superintendent's Award for Excellence, is part of the EXCEL Scholars Program, and the Alpha Kappa Delta International Honor Society of Sociology. She has also received the Norwegian Foot March Badge and The Sabalauski Air Assault School Badge.
Nathania had the opportunity to travel to Lima, Peru through the Foreign Academy Exchange Program and was the Distinguished Spanish Translator for International Visitations to West Point and for the Exchange Sandhurst Competition.
Upon graduating with a Bachelors of Science from West point, Nathania will also graduate with a commission as a 2nd Lieutenant. She will serve as an Adjutant General Officer in Osan, South Korea for the 130th Engineer Brigade!
